Vintage Kewpie Doll Clear Depression Glass Bell

9.99

This cute Kewpie doll clear depression glass bell is lovely. It features crystal clear pressed glass in the shape of a Kewpie Doll standing atop a bell. The clapper is made of a silver tone chain with an opaque white bead on the end.

Measures: 5 1/2" (13.97 cm) x 2 1/4" (5.72 cm)
Condition: It is in very good vintage condition. It has a wrinkle in the glass around the head of the doll which is a manufacture defect and there are a few small air bubbles also in the head. Otherwise it is in excellent condition.

Kewpie History: Kewpie is a brand of dolls and figurines that were initially conceived as comic strip characters by artist and writer Rose O'Neill. The illustrated cartoons, appearing as baby cupid characters, began to gain popularity after the publication of O'Neill's comic strips in 1909, and O'Neill began to illustrate and sell paper doll versions of the Kewpies. The characters were first produced as bisque dolls in Waltershausen, Germany beginning in 1912, and became extremely popular in the early twentieth century.
